Changes on the Horizon for The Weather Channel
Remember awhile back when we read changes were on the way for The Weather Channel? Well it looks as though those changes are just over a month away. According to this info the new logo/tagline change will take effect on September 16th.

And just what changes can viewers expect besides the logo and tagline change? Below is a list of the changes from Wikipedia:

> Beginning in late summer of 2005, First Outlook will be expanded by one hour, from 4:007:00 AM Eastern

> In addition, Your Weather Today will also be expanded by one hour, from 7:0010:00 AM Eastern; Day Planner will now be on for only two hours (10:00 AM12:00 PM Eastern)

> Jennifer Lopez is set to return to Evening Edition while Alexandra Steele will remain on the show, but now as a travel analyst.

> Evening Edition West Coast will have a reprise broadcast from 2:004:00 AM Eastern; thus Overnight Outlook will be dropped from the schedule.

> Starting on September 16, 2005, Weekend View will replace Weekend Planner (7:0011:00 AM Eastern), Bill Keneely and Kelly Cass will continue to be on-air, but with the addition of a new studio host Dao Vu (from The Daily Buzz), and field reporting by Stephanie Abrams.

> Bob Stokes will return to his post on Weekend Now with Hillary Andrews, in addition they will host the entire three hours on the program.

OK, so now the rumors are confirmed, Jlo is going back to the 9pm slot. I can deal with that! Less Alexandra is always a good thing. Who will replace Jlo at 6pm? I might even be able to tolerate Bob Stokes since he'll be with Hillary Andrews. Maybe i'll start watching a little TWC now.

Thanks Jeff.

Looks like Steele is almost back where she started as travel analyst and Lopez gets her old gig back. I wonder what happens 6-8PM?

haha Maybe AS will get let go when her contract runs out. I was not the only one that thought the AS at 9pm deal was very sour! Well if I were running things i'd put SR on at 6pm. But, you never know, it could be Sarah Libby's time to show her stuff. I don't see CL, KD, VB, getting the spot.....Didn't KA used to work 6pm? Perhaps she'll get it and this AS thing was just an experiment...That obviously worked out terrible for me. I haven't watched EE when AS has been on there at all.

I wouldn't watch Stokes if a naked Hillary was on with him (OK, I might ONCE). Pair him with Steele and watch 'em drive each other nuts. Or put him on with Dao Vu.

Who will replace Jenny Poo? Probably someone with no meteorological qualifications. Mabye a monkey or chimp, possibly Mo from the old Dennis Miller Show. Focus group research by Landmark showed that everybody likes monkeys and chimps.

I agree. Put him and whoever on in the middle of the night, along with that crackpot Heidi Cullen.

The real reason for the delay:

TV Personality Hospitalized; No Explanation

(AP) Daily Buzz Host Dao Vu was mysteriously hospitalized last week, just days before her scheduled debut on The Weather Channel in their much hyped new weekend show. While no official statement has been forthcoming, sources inside Valley River Stream Lake Hospital confirm that Ms. Vu was admitted through the emergency room with a ham sandwich lodged in her throat. Sources also tell us that Ms. Vu arrived at the hospital made up to look like a raccoon.

While no charges have been brought, police are treatng this as an attempted homicide. A source close to the investigation has provided some details of the police effort. Apparently the ham sandwich had mayonnaise on it rather than the traditional mustard. "Mayo is an unusual condiment on a murder weapon," noted eminent pathologist Dr. Michael Baden.

At this time, there are no official suspects in the case, but another key clue has led police to the Atlanta area. Apparently the ham sandwich was wrapped in a several days old weather bulletin with "Stokes Must Die" scrawled on it in bright lip gloss. The Cobb County Sheriff has asked that anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of a poorly dressed Ms. Cass please cal 1-800-GOT-CLUE.

It is believed that this is an attempt to make Ms. Vue's death look like an accidental choking on a ham sandwich. A nurse who attended Ms. Vue in the ER did tell this reporter that the victim kept saying "No. Not Mama Cass. Not Mama. K-K-K-K." and "But they ARE small and too far apart."

Ms. Vue is expected to make a full recovery and her debut has been postponed until September. In a related development, Bob Stokes has requested political asylum in Canada claiming that his life is in danger as long as that "nut bag Cass has keys to a car."

A press briefing has been set for Sunday, July 31 at 5PM in Rita Cosby's Living Room.
-30-

My sources tell me that a light lunch will be served at Ms. Cosby's after the presser. Ham sandwiches for all, except Rita, She will have her usual, all mixed up in a bucket w/ the eggs on top.

In a related note, Canada has turned down the request of Bob Stokes for asylum. Government spokesman Bob McKenzie stated that, "We've got enough vermin in the Great White North withoot letting this hoser in, eh?"

(Note- Most of the above is satire. Read at your own risk.)

Two minor edits for grammar and spelling.

On a related note; Joe Mama, Weather Channel Vice President - Offending and Alienating Viewers, relesed the following statement:

"In the event that Ms. Vu will not have recovered by her planned debut, her temporary replacement will be Carla Parker. Carla will be Carl Parker in a wig, wearing his usual pink.

In a related programming note. TWC is pleased to announce that Jennifer Wilbanks will be paired with Parker in his usual 6-8PM EDT timeslot."

(Note - This is satire, not to be taken seriously. If you did think that this was either real, or not funny; please remove yourself from the list of registered voters in your state.)

Lambie-Nairn Completes Branding For The Weather Channel
TWCS new look will debut august 15, 2005
(August 09,2005)

Lambie-Nairn has completed and delivered a major new visual brand identity for The Weather Channel

Internationally acclaimed branding agency Lambie-Nairn has completed and delivered a major new visual brand identity for The Weather Channel. The new identity will launch August 15, 2005. The announcement was made today by Mr. Nick Hough, Chief Executive, Lambie-Nairn.

Originally awarded the project in May 2004, Lambie-Nairn, under the supervision of the companys Executive Creative Director Gary Holt, created the imagery behind The Weather Channels new Living Weather theme, which captures the dynamic nature of weather, and reflects how weather impacts and influences everyones lives. The new brand identity developed by Lambie-Nairn transforms TWCs logo into a graphic window device through which the channel offers not only upcoming forecasts, but also glimpses of the beauty of weather. The window is a vehicle designed to focus on the power of weather, to allow consumers to experience spectacular weather moments and to dare to dream about the possibilities of weather.

The identity package produced by Lambie-Nairn included a complete set of branding tools with extensive brand guidelines. This work was comprised of on-air channel IDs, bumpers, menu boards, and creative concepts for TWCs Daypart programming. Lambie-Nairn also produced two 30-second live action TV spots which were shot in Los Angeles, Malibu and Utah, and incorporate the companys other on-air graphic elements.

Unlike many television networks seeking to establish a distinctive brand position in a cluttered marketplace, The Weather Channel has a relevant, distinctive position as the leading provider of weather and weather-related information. Our goal is to move beyond the functional aspects of what our brand delivers, to capture all of the emotional territory that consumers have surrounding weather and the role it plays in their lives, said Wonya Lucas, Executive Vice President of Marketing for The Weather Channel.

Added Mr. Hough, The Weather Channel is one of the most valuable and highly recognized brands in the U.S., and as such, represents an extremely high profile project for Lambie-Nairn. We were asked to develop a refocused brand strategy and brand identity that would connect viewers to weather in a way that is more compelling and emotional than anything they experienced before. We were delighted to have been selected for this assignment, and we hope that the channels audience responds positively to the new brand identity we have created.

More things to take up space on the screen keeping us from seeing the severe storms on radar.

Yes, I want to "dare to dream" while the damn tornado is bearing down on me.

Thanks, Jeff, for the article.

Hey Dutchman. Does that sound like the black bar will be different, as in not black anymore?
