Many of you may not know that a former TWC wx lady, Marnie Stanier, has filed a lawsuit against TWC for wrongful termination. She contends she was fired just because she got old (42 years I think). Last I checked, the lawsuit was still pending.
Think about it; look at how Kristen Dodd now tries to look a lot younger than she is, versus the elegant way she looked and dress in the captured photo at:

Nothing worse than a 40 year-old woman trying to look 16.
Kristina Abernathy is (I think) 35 years old and has put on some weight too from her earlier days. Watch who stays and who doesn't in the upcoming years. |

That is a sad but brutal truth throughout broadcasting. |

I think television in general is and has been about looks. Just because you work on tv doesn't mean its going to be a lifetime job. I am not familiar with the lawsuit, i've never seen her before. Young, qualified talent has to be integrated into the mix or the product will never evolve. I have noticed men seem to last a lot longer on tv than women of the same age. And if the women get the necessary plastic surgery before it gets too late, their career can be extended. Maybe its because women often peak earlier than men therefore age faster. In a perfect world looks wouldn't matter, only if they can do the job well but, the ratings are all that matter. |

It is defintiely about looks. And anyone in TV that does not know that does not belong in TV. Most broadcast contracts have clauses that preclude "significant changes in appearance."
Men last longer than women becuse of sexism, pure and simple. Nobody likes an old broad, but older men are more respected. That is the harsh truth of it and it ain't exactly a secret.
In the perfect world, Candy Crowley would still be providing the best reporting on Capitol Hill. |

She's not young, but I still think that Carol McKinley is very attractive. |

McKinley is a rare exception to the youth rule. She looks pretty good, but so did a lot of others. She is also a really good reporter. |

Explain Kim Perez then. Man she is old and looks like a stoned David Bowie. Yet she goes on and on.
I am not buying this get old and you're gone mumbo jumbo. Heather Tesch? Nick Walker. Marshall Seese... |

As far as her looks, Kim went through a nasty bout with thyroid cancer and was gone for over a year. she is lucky to be alive. That will put years on you.
With her education and military experience, she is more qualified than most OCM's. Remember, some have no meteorological degree or even a broadcast certificate. |

By and large, age is a big determiner of broadcast success. Marshall and Nick don't count. The rule is harsher for women. Sadly sexist, but true.
Kim and Heather are exceptions to the rule. In general, looking old is pretty much bad for a woman on television. |
